United Kingdom Import Requirements
THE 5 DAY RULE & MORE
THE 5-DAY RULE
For pets to travel "non-commercially," ie not on Registered and Approved Bulgarian Transport -they must travel within five days of their owner. If you can't meet this 5-Day Rule, your move will be considered commercial, which changes the UK import requirements and timeline and you may be breaking the law and put your pet at risk by not following the rules..
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
If you're planning to sell, rehome or transfer your dog's ownership, if your dog is arriving more than 5 days before or after you arrive, or if you're bringing more than 5 pets, there are additional rules you must follow.
If these procedures are not correctly followed, your dog may be put into quarantine for up to 4 months or refused entry.
As you can see, there's much to arrange for your pet's move. At www.pettransportbulgaria.co.uk we're here to help you navigate this process. You can fill out our online consultation form if you're interested in our services.
Banned breeds in the United Kingdom
Not all dog breeds are allowed in this country. You may not be able to bring your pet if they are one of the following breeds (or a mix of one):
Pit Bull Terrier
Japanese Tosa
Dogo Argentino
Fila Braziliero (Brazilian Mastiff)
If a dog resembling one of these breeds arrives in the UK, it could be seized by the authorities and returned to its origin at the owner's expense.
Unlisted Countries and additional requirements
If you come from an "unlisted country," your pet will need a rabies antibody test (titer). Follow these steps:
Microchip and rabies vaccination (at least 30 days old before blood draw)
Rabies antibody test performed by an accredited veterinarian and sent to a UK-approved laboratory.
Wait 90 days after the blood draw before completing export paperwork (assuming a passing result)
Stay informed to ensure a successful move for you and your beloved pet.
